2K Games has welcomed a seasoned producer from the creators of Apex Legends to direct the studio crew at 31st Union, which is currently working on the forthcoming third-person action-packed title known as Project Ethos.
Management Change Follows Poor Response
The new appointee takes on the role of studio head at the development studio following the departure of previous head Michael Condrey, who was removed from his post due to the game's underwhelming initial reveal last autumn.
Recently, the company's top executive David Ismailer updated employees about this decision through an internal memo, which stressed that early feedback sessions had indicated the necessity for a clearer direction.
The president expressed that the developers is now reimagining Project Ethos with a renewed vision, aiming to address player expectations.
Trend of Key Hires
The news follows a similar move taken by 2K Games in August, when they brought on Rod Fergusson from Blizzard to work on the BioShock development group.
Below is the entire message from Ismailer's communication:
Hello Everyone—
I know you all just wrapped up your gathering - I hope you’re as thrilled as I am with the good news. Previously I sent you all a message, I mentioned the following: “I believe in this group. You all are some of the most driven and talented developers we have had the pleasure to collaborate with - and we’re looking forward for that partnership to endure.”
Through your commitment and versatility, particularly over the past twelve months, you repeatedly show that.
The player input from last autumn’s Project ETHOS demo was revealing. It affirmed the promise of a roguelike shooter but indicated we still had improvements to make. It highlighted the need for a sharper brand.
The progress is encouraging to see how far you’ve advanced. You took the input to mind and revamped Project ETHOS with a refreshed goal - one that’s ready to achieve its ambition to our fans.
Our confidence in Project ETHOS grows every day. To further the outstanding development you’ve made, It is a pleasure to introduce the new hire as the incoming Director of the team. Following some time of conversations, Ben officially joins us on next week.
His management and experience in the competitive gaming genre is vast, having devoted the recent years developing and leading some of the most well-known series in gaming, including Call of Duty: Black Ops, and lately, Apex Legends.
Let’s together in receiving him in the coming days. We are all looking forward to continue witnessing the evolution of the game in the time to ahead.
The President
